RESEARCH PROJECT AT UCLAB VISIT PROJECT WEBSITE WANDERER SOFTWARE PAPER
How do we move beyond object-centred and western classification logics in exhibitions? How can we represent relational knowledge and indigenous perspectives?
Starting from cultural collections related to the Brazilian Amazon, the project responds to a broader challenge in museum practice.
The Wanderer is a framework for exhibitions and the web that enables the contextualised presentation of data alongside film media. It allows curators and researchers to create interactive story-diagrams that reveal relationships between people, materials, places, concepts and other actors and to link these diagrams to video content. This narrative-driven and relational approach supports the inclusion of different voices and perspectives and makes complex relationships visible.
exhibition use
the first use case of the Wanderer – Xingu entangled – has been presented at several international exhibitions including Humboldt Forum Berlin, re:publica 24, Info+ Conference 23 and Existência Numérica 24
educational use
students at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam created interactive data installations with the framework as part of my semester course Entanglements, demonstrating its applicability for the communication of diverse, complex topics and for critical engagement with data
